Vanessa Sommerfeld served 2 years as Assistant Coach for PTHS and has now stepped up to lead the 2018 – 2019 cheerleaders as Head Coach. She was a cheerleader for Judson Middle School as well as Captain of her Freshman, JV, and Varsity squads at Longview High School.
Coach Sommerfeld holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry from Texas A&M University and a Master's in Human Biological Chemistry and Genetics from University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. She received her teaching Certificate through the PACT program at LeTourneau University. Currently in her 7th year at PTHS, Vanessa teaches Forensic Science as well as Regular and Dual Credit Anatomy and Physiology. In 2014 -2015, she was selected Teacher of the Year for the High School Campus.
Vanessa has a daughter, Sam, who is a junior. She has two shelter dogs and an iguana that is also a classroom pet. She enjoys reading and spending time with her sisters.
Melissa Wright has been teaching at PTHS since January 2015. She currently teaches English II, PreAP English II, and AP English IV. She serves as the English Department lead teacher and is a member of the Campus Improvement Team. She has three adult sons and is married to Mike Wright. They live near East Mountain where they have a cattle business, train dogs, and ride horses.
Coach Wright has BA degrees in Psychology and English from Texas A&M University and a BA in Spanish from UT-Tyler. She has taught at the secondary level in public high schools for 15 years and was an instructor for Kilgore College in adult vocational training for 12 years. She was the 2016-2017 Teacher of the Year for PTHS.
Devan Branum is a proud 1996 Pine Tree Alumna. attending here 1st-12th grades. She went on to graduate from Abilene Christian University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Education in 2000. Her first teaching job was in Jodie McClure Elementary School at Longview ISD. She then went on to pursue a dream to be a Disney Cast Member where she worked for several years as a trainer and coordinator in Fantasyland Attractions at Walt Disney World in Florida.
Upon her return to Longview, she spent 3 years substituting for Pine Tree while she earned her Special Education certification. She is now in her 1st year full time teaching position at Pine Tree High School serving as a Science Resource and Inclusion teacher.
