Welcome to PTHS Cheerleading
About PTHS Cheerleading
Cheerleaders and spirit groups exist to promote good sportsmanship, good citizenship, and wholesome school spirit and are first and foremost representatives of their school. Members of these groups have a fundamental responsibility to play a leadership role in building teamwork and helping the school achieve its goals and objectives. Because of these responsibilities, members of the cheerleading squad will be expected to maintain a higher standard of behavior both on and off campus and academic achievement than that of their peers. Tryouts are held in the month of March every year. Details about tryouts and cheerleading expectations will be posted here.
Cheerleaders are expected to attend cheer camp during the summer for a week, and practice 2-3 weeks before school starts. During the year, students practice during a designated class period, and have after school practices as needed.
PTHS Cheer captains go through a rigorous tryout process including creating a detailed portfolio and fielding questions from tryout judges. They are also judged by their cheer coaches on many other qualities such as leadership skills, ability, responsibility, time to devote to the program, and experience. Head cheerleaders should have good leadership qualities, high academic performance, and a cooperative spirit. The head cheerleaders should be individuals who will try to unite the members into a working team and who will be able to work well with other members, drill team, band, etc. The head cheerleaders are responsible for working with the sponsors on practice organization, plans for game activities, and developing schedules. The head cheerleaders will designate cheers and chants to do at the games and pep rallies with approval of the sponsor. They are held to a very high standard, and are required to devote a tremendous amount of time to the PTHS Cheer squad and PTHS.
